MOBILE DATA SYSTEMS (MDS)
ANNOUNCES THAT BEST BUY® IS ROLLING OUT MDS’S MOBILE
CODE PLATFORM IN ALL STORES.
September 1, 2010
Nesconset New York - Mobile Data Systems, Inc. (MDS), a software innovation development and integration company and Launch Media Inc., a mobile marketing agency specializing in enterprise-level retail solutions, today announced that, following several months of successful testing of Best Buy’s mobile code interactive marketing platform in select stores, the mass retailer is rolling the program out to all its stores including their rapidly growing Best Buy Mobile locations.
Mobile Data Systems developed and is managing the code creation and management technology that supports the creative campaigns Launch Media continues to build and roll out in collaboration with Best Buy’s marketing and advertising teams.
Best Buy is the world’s largest electronics retailer, attracting loyal, tech-savvy customers who have enjoyed interacting with the initial campaigns, including the promotion of a “Super Mario” video game in one of Best Buy’s weekly circulars which included both QR codes and watermarks.
After downloading the Best Buy mobile apps for the Apple iPhone and Android mobile devices from Best Buy’s website, customers were able to scan QR codes and digital watermarks. MDS has the only smart-phone reader across all popular platforms that can decode 1D and 2D bar codes, as well as digital and audio watermarks.
Best Buy also promoted mobile codes in some of their leading stores, enticing customers to download their branded mobile app and use their mobile devices to enhance their shopping experiences by clicking on promotions as part of their pilot.

“This is just the beginning,” said Joseph Spiteri, founder and CEO of Mobile Data Systems. “We have enjoyed immensely working with Best Buy and Launch Media to ensure perfect execution of the initial pilot, including integration of our solutions with their existing point-of-sale and direct marketing systems. Best Buy has always led in retail innovation through exciting customer experiences, including loyalty programs which also figure into their vision for the use of mobile applications. Our universal reader client will be integrated into Best Buy’s gaming application in the near future, making it easy for gamers to immediately get a trade-in value for their games.”
